Illinois families pay the highest state and local tax rates in the country, have been dealt 24 new tax hikes and fees while Pritzker’s been in office, and as if that isn’t enough, their retirement income may be next.
While advocating for the Tax Hike Amendment in 2020, State Treasurer Michael Frerichs let the idea of taxing retirement slip. He said:
“One thing a progressive tax would do is make clear you can have graduated rates when you are taxing retirement income. And I think that’s something that’s worth discussion.”
That statement, whether intentional or not, could have very well been the nail in the coffin in the defeat of the Tax Hike Amendment in 2020.
Now, there is a Resolution sponsored by Rep. Tom Demmer sitting in the Rules Committee that would protect your retirement income from Springfield politicians.
